Masters of Harmony Member Receives Far Western District Honors
Frank Ortega, May 7, 2007

At the SoCal East-West Division Convention on Saturday, May 5, Far Western District President Bill Cale presented the highly prestigious President’s Award to Mark Freedkin for his ongoing work with the Young Men In Harmony Program. The award was presented immediately before the Masters of Harmony sang for their acceptance as the 2007 SoCal West Chorus Champion. The plaque was inscribed with the following text:
In recognition of his dedication and faithful service to the ideals and values of the Barbershop Harmony Society in bringing the joys of our hobby to young men.
The President’s Award is given by the District President to individuals or chapters who demonstrate exceptional effort in supporting the District’s goals and objectives. President Cale noted Freedkin’s vision and preparation of the 80-man high school honor choir that performed at the 1999 International Convention in Anaheim, as well as the past seven Young Men’s Harmony Festivals that have been co-sponsored by the Masters of Harmony and the Southern California Vocal Association (SCVA). These festivals have become known as one of the premier youth programs throughout the Society. In addition, President Cale acknowledged Freedkin’s service as a COTS instructor for Youth in Harmony, and his work as the volunteer webmaster for the SCVA and his relentless service to the choral music education community.
