Pasadena’s Ambassador Auditorium Hosts Masters of Harmony Spring Show

Ron Larson

On May 1, 2010, the Masters of Harmony return to Pasadena’s world-renowned Ambassador Auditorium for the first time in 21 years. In November 1989, before the Masters had received much attention outside Southern California, they shared concert billing with the well-established Paragon Ragtime Orchestra. The Masters’ performance that night earned them a standing ovation from the audience and even rave reviews from some of the orchestra members. Those in attendance had just witnessed the early stages of a men’s barbershop musical dynasty and the truth of the Masters’ motto, “Dedicated to Musical Excellence.”

The Masters, led by Mark Hale, one of the Barbershop Harmony Society’s most talented directors, offer traditional barbershop harmony influenced by elements of jazz, swing, and pop culture for which they have become famous far beyond the boundaries of that memorable 1989 performance. The men of the Masters bring a level of musical excellence and boundless energy that never fails to wow their audiences.

The featured guest artist is Crossroads, 2009 International Quartet Champion. In winning the gold medal, Crossroads dominated the quartet preliminaries so thoroughly that the foursome left little doubt as to who would win. Its winning score was one of the Society’s highest ever for a quartet champion.

The musical ambiance of the Ambassador is the perfect setting to showcase these highly talented performers. Its acoustical characteristics are legendary, rivaling those of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. This spring show promises to be one that will thoroughly entertain all who attend. Come to Pasadena on May 1 and let the Masters, Crossroads, and the Ambassador Auditorium create musical memories you will long remember!
